Who am I?

Hi, my name is Simran Singh Dhaliwal and I am currently a student at UCLA studying computer science. I have lived in the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles and the San Joaquin Valley. I'm currently based in the Bay Area, but I'm always up for new adventures. I am deeply passionate about every part of software development, and I am planning on utilizing this passion in a software developing/engineering role.

What Do I Know?

Firstly, I have focused on mastering the formulation and application of algorithms through schoolwork and extra-circular activities. Through my experience of being a computer science tutor, I have gained an expertise in the concepts of object-oreintated programming. I am able to effectively code in C++ and Python, and utilize more analytical programming languages such as MatLab. I am comfortable with web development, being able to use HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. This is in conjunction with different JavaScript frameworks such as React and database tools.

LA Navigation

This program analyzes real-world street data, providing detailed step by step directions between two points. Additionally, the program was designed to be capable of effectively chaining routes; creating an efficient path that would stop at each intended destination. This project could be implemented into ride-share and delivery services.

Kontagion

This is an arcade game that I implemented using C++. This project involved the use of C++ audio and visual libraries. Every enemy in this game was implemented to have a different behavior. Additionally, the game difficulty dynamically changes depending on how long the player survives.

Directory Scanner

This project revolved around mastering Linux and becoming comfortable with shell-scripting. The project will start at a given directory and recursive scan to ensure that every file name fits into specificed naming convention. This program could be used to check if all files in a repositiory fit into a company's coding standard.

Network Communication

This project involved server and client communication via TCP socket. The client would continously allow the user to send input that would be processed by the server (i.e shell commands), and results would be sent back to the client and displayed to the user. All communication would be compressed and logged.

Git Sorting

A python script would examine a Git repositiory through unpacking and exploring the data of different files to give a detailed sorted log of the history of each commit in the project. I designed an algorithm that would deal with sorting commits on separate paths and would deal with merges.

IOT Communication

Designed, built and debugged an embedded application that logged formatted temperatures samples. Utilized the OPENSSL library to use SSL/TLS protocols to securely send samples to a central server. Moreover, this project introduced me to the MRAA library, which is used for low-level communication on GNU/Linux platforms.
